Stairlifts

When do I need a stair lift?
The simple answer to this is when you feel that getting up a flight of stairs is a struggle or inconvenience, it is the time to consider purchasing one.

How do I choose the right stair lift?
Each stair lift model, although similar, has different benefits and some are more suited to a particular staircase than others. A representative from Physiolift can come to your home to discuss which type would better suit your property, as well as discuss pricing and budget options.

Are my stairs suitable?
At Physiolift, we've never met a set of stairs we couldn't put a lift on.There is a stair lift available to suite nearly all staircases.  Stairlifts can run on either side of the stairs. They can take an inside or outside curve and maneuver through landings — easily managing 90 and 180-degree turns.

Most staircases are either straight, have a middle landing, or are curved/spiral. In some cases, a customer who has a middle landing can put 2 stair lifts in, one on the first set of steps and the other on the second set.

Is the cost of a stairlift covered by my medical insurance or Medicare?
Medicare does not cover the cost of a stairlift. Some private insurers do. Check your policy or talk with your agent to determine what applies in your situation.

How is the stair lift fitted?
The stair lift is fitted directly to the tread of the stairs, and not to the wall.  It requires rail brackets about every 3-4 ft.

How long does it take to install a stair lift?
A stair lift can normally be installed within a few hours.

Will a Stair lift make it awkward for other people walking up and down the stairs?
When your stair lift is not in use, all seats, pedestals and arm rests fold away allowing full access to your stairs until you need it again.

How much space does a stair lift use?
When not in use, the lift can be folded up, maximizing space on the staircase for others. It takes up about 13" when folded and typically opens to about 25".

Are Stair Lifts noisy?
Most Stair lifts operate silently.

How much weight can a stair chair hold?
It depends on the manufacturer of the lift, but a stair chair can accommodate up to 400 pounds.

What about safety features?
Key safety features on most stair lifts include a seat belt, obstruction sensors that will stop the lift should something block its path, a swivel seat lock that holds the unit in place while you get on or off. Constant pressure controls ensure the lift will stop if you release your finger from the controls.

What happens if my lift breaks down?
Physiolifts primary concern is your safety and satisfaction.  In case of any problems with your stairlift, please call our number (508) 839-0085 and normally a 24 hour response rate is provided.

Do I need to do anything special to prepare the home for a stair lift?
Not really, unless you don't have an electrical outlet to support the operation of the stair lift. In this case, you would need an electrician to install an outlet before the stair lift is installed.

Will a stair lift work for someone who also uses a wheelchair?
Stair lifts can be useful even for someone who has limited mobility. Convenience features built into some models include folding arms that push up and out of the way, adjustable seat heights, and soft, padded seats.

Are stair lifts easy to care for?
Yes. Stair lifts are designed to last for many years. Most stair lifts come with a manufacturer's warranty.

In all of Physiolift’s experience the only regret we’ve heard is: Why did I wait so long?
